A good saree can stay beautiful for years. Most damage comes from storage, not from wearing it. These simple habits make the biggest difference.
Wash less, and gently
Silk, katan and fine jamdani are best dry cleaned, especially the first time. Cotton such as Tangail can be hand washed in cold water with a mild soap and dried in the shade.
Keep zari away from perfume
Perfume and deodorant can dull gold and silver threads. Put them on before you drape the saree, and let them dry first.
Store in soft cloth, not plastic
Wrap each saree in soft cotton or muslin. Plastic traps moisture. A few dried neem leaves in the cupboard help keep insects away.
Refold every few months
Fabric weakens along the same folds over time. Take your sarees out every few months and fold them a different way.
